Let me first say that we have been overwhelmed by the sheer number of blog posts and online news articles we have seen the last couple of days. It was also fantastic to see our product being featured on so many sites in so many different languages.  From Swedish to Russian, from the Spanish to the Somalian forums, people loved our product and its bold, outspoken design characteristics.

Although most blog posts contained the correct information and made good assumptions, not everything posted online turned out to be word for word accurate.  So we felt the need to emphasise and provide clarification on some topics through use of this blog post.

  • Credits
The development team consisted out of:

    • Peter Distol (SOCO Sensus),
      Hardware engineering and form-factor design
    • Janis Pönisch
      Fibre-glass shell design/ shape
    • Ralph Das (Intactlab)
      Software development.

In some posts the Touchy Remix is solely credited to Janisch Pönish. This is definitly not the case. Janisch helped us with the development of the fiber-glass shell and the design of the original shape for the shell. The inner-form can be much more credited to Peter Distol , who developed the VERSA form-factor. A unique construction which provide leg-room in rear projection set-ups.

  • Multi-touch input
In some comments people suggested that the Touchy Remix used the so-called Rear Diffused Illumination technique for multi-touch input. This is definitely not the case. We use, like Jeff Han, Frustrated Total Internal Reflection (FTIR) to generate the touch input needed for our IR  sensors. This makes the system far more stable and makes the physical placement, regarding light conditions far more flexible.
  • Software
We do not run Vortex software or any other Mindstorm product. We are not affaliated in any way with Mindstorm or its software at this moment. The software you see in the demo video is:

    • CoolIris Firefox plugin on OSX with use of a TUIO touch mouse controller.
    • NewsWell by Intactlab.
    • LightBox by Intactlab.
  • Resolution
Our system runs on a display resolution, as stated in the technical specification sheet, of a 1280×800 pixel resolution. This resolution is also called Wide XGA of (WXGA). Many online posts reported lower resolutions and question-marked readability because of it.
  • Mac specifications
The Apple Mac Mini system which is at the core of the Touchy Remix the video is shot with features a: 2,66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo , 4 GB of RAM and 320 GB hard drive.
  • Distributorship
Intactlab is at this moment the only distributor of Touchy Remix. The product itself is manufactured by SOCO Sensus which is based in Amsterdam as well. As a team member I was also involved in the concept development and design process of the original Touchy Remix. This doesn’t mean Intactlab is producing the Touchy Remix on its own or that the idea of the Touchy Remix came from Intactlab. The development and design of the Touchy Remix as a concept was a team effort. The production, shipment  and support of the Touchy Remix as a product is solely done by our hardware manufacturer SOCO Sensus. SOCO Sensus is also still looking out for US and UK based distributors. For more information, contact Peter Distol (SOCO Sensus)
